Who we are

The American Cat Project is a web site for people who have discovered hissing kittens hiding under the porch, skinny cats begging in the coffee-shop parking lot, or feline shadows lurking in the local park.

If you aren't the kind of person who can just walk away, you aren't alone.

The street cat is the original American cat. Countless kittens are pulled from the streets into homes, and countless more feral (wild) cats remain outdoors, uncared for. They were once ignored to live or die. But now caring neighbors are unwilling to turn a blind eye to cat overpopulation and street cat suffering. They want to do something to stop the problem.

They aren't just wild cats. They are our cats. They are American cats.

What we do

The American Cat Project is a community program of Wildrun, a former wildlife control business. We provide local cat rescuers and land owners with information and support as they tackle cat issues. We help get kittens and friendly cats off the streets, and aid landowners in neutering and rabies-vaccinating feral and barn cats.

We provide training, equipment, free boarding during surgical recovery, and support.

• Armed Forces Pest Management Board This is an excellent example of how much preparation and expense must go into a a truly effective removal program. You will note that while this publication promotes removal, it also addresses lost pet cats, lactating cats, humane practices, habitat modification, etc., and does not ignore the reality of these factors, as most removal proposals do.
