Fluffy

In 2001 we were asked to volunteer at the very first feral cat spay/neuter clinic for our area. A few days before, it occurred to us that perhaps we should bring a cat to be fixed. We set a trap on our new farm because we knew there were unowned cats about, and the next day, Fluffy's face greeted us from the trapbox.

Fluffy had some mats, so when we signed him up for neuter, we asked if the veterinary staff could clip them out. Imagine our shock when feral Fluffy emerged from surgery stripped bald except for his paws, head, and tail. There was no releasing a bald cat into the April chill, so Fluffy stayed in the kitten room until his fur could grow back.

But Fluffy saw the benefits of tame life. He became a foster-dad to the kittens, and grew downright affectionate. Fluffy is now King of the cat room. He loves being petted and scratched under the cheek. He is very good about being brushed and combed. His new owner MUST be willing to brush him daily, and this becomes vital from February to April when he sheds. He is a very, very large cat of traditional Persian background, and must be kept on low calorie food to avoid overweight.

Fluffy is the favorite of every visitor to the facility, but few are willing to take on that gorgeous coat. We are very attached to Fluff, and you can expect we'll ask a lot of questions if you wish to adopt him. But sooner or later, he will find just the right home.
